États-Unis : Mauvaise nouvelle pour l’Afrique de l’Ouest, le FCFA a perdu du …
En 2024, le franc CFA a été soumis à une forte volatilité sur le marché des changes. La monnaie commune à huit pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest s’est dépréciée de 4,06 % face au dollar américain et de 4,29 % face au franc guinéen. En revanche, elle a bondi de 40,30 % face au naira nigérian. Ces fluctuations traduisent non seulement l’évolution des grandes devises mondiales, mais aussi les turbulences économiques propres à la région.
La Fed dicte sa loi
Le repli du FCFA face au dollar s’explique en grande partie par la politique monétaire restrictive menée par la Réserve fédérale des États-Unis (Fed). En maintenant ses taux d’intérêt à des niveaux élevés, la Fed a renforcé l’attractivité du dollar, incitant les investisseurs à préférer les actifs libellés en devise américaine. Cette situation a mis sous pression de nombreuses devises émergentes, dont le FCFA.

Une BCEAO en manque de marge de manœuvre
Face à cette dynamique, la Banque centrale des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (BCEAO) a eu peu de marge de manœuvre. Bien que ses réserves de change aient augmenté de 23 % en décembre, son action est restée limitée par son arrimage à l’euro. Or, en 2024, la monnaie européenne a perdu du terrain face au dollar, passant de 1,12 USD/EUR en septembre à environ 1,02 USD/EUR en janvier 2025, ce qui a directement impacté le FCFA.
Face au franc guinéen et au naira
En dehors du dollar, le FCFA a également cédé du terrain face au franc guinéen, avec une dépréciation de 4,29 %. Ce repli traduit les tensions économiques en Guinée, où la politique monétaire reste largement influencée par les décisions locales. En revanche, la devise ouest-africaine a enregistré un bond spectaculaire de 40,30 % face au naira nigérian, reflet des difficultés persistantes de l’économie nigériane et de la volatilé de sa monnaie.
